Sydney University failed to secure a point across five grades in a tough opening round of the Sydney Men’s Grade cricket competition.
Manly-Warringah all-rounder Ahillen Beadle helped his side to first innings points over Sydney University in the First Grade clash at Manly Oval.
Beadle top-scored with 90 as the hosts racked up 250 on the first day of the two-day fixture and followed that up with 3-30 as Sydney University were dismissed for 189 on day two. Tim Ley cracked an unbeaten 57 for the Students, with Liam Robertson (35) and Adam Theobald (34) adding useful contributions. But Manly-Warringah collected the six points.
Manly-Warringah Second Grade held out for a draw with Sydney University Seconds at University No.1 Oval.
Sydney University batted first and posted 260 on the back of Ben Trevor-Jones’ 115, but Manly-Warringah batted out 107 overs on the second day to be 9-207 at stumps.
Manly-Warringah Thirds collected first innings points at Grahame Reserve. The hosts won the toss and declared at 4-301, thanks to Jarrod Rawlings’ unbeaten 169. Sydney University replied with 284, with James Larkin cracking 100 and Jack Holloway 73.
Manly-Warringah also collected first innings points in the Fourth Grade fixture at St Paul’s College Oval and the Fifth Grade clash at Mike Pawley Oval.
Sydney University’s Metropolitan Cup XI carried the day, taking first innings points in their two-day clash with Western Suburbs at Sydney University No.2 Oval.
Round 2 matches in the grade competition will see Sydney University up against Cempbelltown-Camden, with the First Grade fixture scheduled for Raby Oval.
