Sydney University still has five teams alive into the second week of finals in the Sydney men’s and women’s premier league competitions.

Sydney University finished minor premiers in the Women’s Division One competition having gone through the season proper undefeated.

They will meet UNSW-Eastern Suburbs in the major semi-final at Blacktown International Sports Park at 11.05am  on Saturday, August 30, with the winner securing a grand final berth.

The minor semi-final will be between Newtown Breakaways and Macquarie University, with the loser bowing out and the winner meeting the loser of the major semi-final.

Sydney University also has four teams still in contention in the Sydney Men’s Premier League.

The Premier Division team finished fifth at the end of the competition proper on a ladder that was headed by Manly Warringah Giants, with Pennant Hills Demons, St George Dragons, Western Suburbs Magpies, Sydney University Lions and UNSW-Eastern Suburbs Bulldogs making up the top six.

Sydney University will meet Western Suburbs Magpies in an elimination final at Blacktown International Sports Park from 3.30pm on Sunday, August 31. The other elimination final will be between Pennant Hills Demons and St George Dragons.

Sydney University’s Under 19 side missed out on the finals with only the first four going through. They finished 6th in the seven-team competition, with minor premiers St George Dragons and North Shore Bombers, UNSW-Eastern Suburbs and Manly-Warringah fighting out the finals.

Sydney University’s Division Two side ended the competition proper as minor premiers with 16 wins from 18 rounds. Having had a week off, they will meet Blacktown Magic in an elimination final at Henson Park, from 1.20pm on Saturday, August 30. Blacktown defeated Western Suburbs in one elimination final, while Manly Warringah defeated Camden in the other.

Sydney University’s Division Three side defeated Pennant Hills in their elimination final and will now meet Nor-West Jets in the minor semi-final at Henson Park, from 1.20pm on Sunday, August 31.

And Sydney University’s Division Four team remain alive despite a loss to Wollondilly Knights in their elimination final last weekend.

Sydney University finished third on the competition ladder behind UTS Bats and Wollondilly, and will now meet UNSW-Eastern Suburbs in the minor semi-final at Henson Park from 11-10am this Sunday, August 31.
