Sydney’s big wet at the weekend caused the cancellation of the American Football National Club Championship match between Sydney University and the Central Spears from Canberra.
The match was to be played at the Camperdown campus Square on Sunday, but was washed out and will be rescheduled at a mutually agreeable date later in the year.
Sydney University’s American Football Club qualified for the National Club Championship game after another dominant season in the NSW competition.
The Lions were chasing back-to-back titles in the annual match which is supported by the United States Studies Centre at the University of Sydney.
The Lions won the inaugural NCC Game last year, defeating the Gold Coast Stingrays 45-13 to claim the title.
Coached by Andrew Ogborne, the Lions were undefeated in NSW competition last season and qualified to defend their title against the Central Spears, who also went undefeated in the ACT American Football competition.
Only one team can be the best in Australia and the National Club Championship was inaugurated to settle the score.
