Sydney University’s American Football Club has qualified for the National Club Championship game, to be played on the Camperdown campus Square.

The Lions will be chasing back-to-back titles when they play the Central Spears from Canberra on the Sydney University Square on Sunday, August 17, with a 2pm kick-off scheduled.

And the annual match is again being supported by the United States Studies Centre at the University of Sydney.

The Lions won the inaugural NCC Game last year, defeating the Gold Coast Stingrays 45-13 to claim the title.

Coached by Andrew Ogborne. the Lions were undefeated in NSW competition last season and have qualified to defend their title against the Central Spears, who also went undefeated in the ACT American Football competition. Only one team can be the best in Australia and the National Club Championship will settle the score.

Gates will open at noon, and there will be food and entertainment for the whole family, including live music from reggae outfit Freida’s Boss.

The mission of the US Studies Centre is to increase understanding of the United States in Australia. The Centre runs activities which span the study of politics and policy, economics and business, culture and society.

In addition to its academic programs, the Centre engages with the community through business leadership forums, public education and public events, including the annual NCC match.
