Sydney University Hockey Club’s Scott Barker recently added another notch to his impressive CV when he guided NSW Under 21 men’s team to a gold medal at the National Championships at Sydney Olympic Park.

NSW defeated Victoria 7-2 in the final, thanks to three goals from forward Blake Govers, who was the main contributor to the side’s four goals and three penalty corners.

Western Australia won the bronze medal with a 3-0 result over Queensland.

NSW made it a double for 2014, with the Women’s Under 21 side winning gold at the 12-day National Championships held in Perth. NSW accounted for reigning champions Queensland 3-1 to claim the title.

Barker, who joined Sydney University Sport and Fitness in 2012 as Director of Hockey, was involved with involved with Australian Futures camps and the NSW Institute of Sport coaching staff before taking up the NSW role

His roles at the University are to manage and create pathways for the members of SUSF’s Elite Athlete Program scholarship holders and to oversee the men’s and women’s Sydney University Hockey Club premier teams.

He had instant success in helping guide the Women’s First Grade team to the club’s first ever Premier League title.
