The semi-finals of the 2014 Dooleys Netball State League Waratah Cup have arrived, and so have the newcomers to the league, City of Sydney-Sydney University.

CSNA-Sydney University, coached by Jenny O’Keefe and Mo’onia Gerrard, finished fourth of the ladder at the end of the competition proper and will play the sudden-death, minor semi-final against defending champions Eastwood-Ryde at the Anne Clark Centre, from 8.30pm on Wednesday night (July 9).

Minor premiers St George and Sutherland Shire will contest the major semi-final, with the winner progressing to the grand final on Wednesday, July 23. The loser will meet the winner of the minor semi-final in the final on Wednesday, July 16.

With the regular season wrapped up, it also means the season is over for four sides: Baulkham Hills, Manly-Warringah, Liverpool City and Newcastle.

All finals matches will be played at the Anne Clark Centre.

Meanwhile, two CSNA-Sydney University sides recently contested the NSW Age Championships, with the Under 12s, coached by Pamela Brown and managed by Kailah Elliott, finishing eighth on a tightly contested ladder.

Blacktown City, Blue Mountains and Maitland all finished on 18 points, with Parramatta Auburn and Inner Western Suburbs just one point behind on 17, split by goal differential. Wagga Wagga, Lakeside and CSNA-Sydney University made up the top eight.

The Under 12s went from no wins at five carnivals to mixing it with the best at the State Championships.

CSNA-Sydney University Under 15s also contested the 2014 State Championships and competed against some extremely tough competition.

As CSNA-Sydney University Netball Operations Manager Sam Dawes said, both sides will have learnt from the experience. “They should be proud of themselves for the effort they put it,” she said.
