Sydney University’s North East Australian Football League (NEAFL) team is gearing towards the Chancellor’s Cup when they meet the University of Western Sydney Giants at Spotless Stadium on July 19.

UWS Giants are the Reserve Grade side for the Greater Western Sydney AFL team.

The Chancellor’s Cup was established between the two universities in 2013 to support the Bridges to Higher Education scheme, with the teams to compete for the trophy on an annual basis.

The Australian Football clubs from the University of Sydney and the University of Western Sydney became involved to support the message of Bridges to Higher Education, which is a partnership of five Sydney universities working with schools and communities to improve the participation of students from communities under-represented in higher education.

The Chancellor’s Cup represents an opportunity for delegates from both universities, the AFL and the two NEAFL clubs to empower the positive initiative through a national sporting code with an inclusive philosophy to education and community development.

Bridges to Higher Education is a $21.2 million initiative, funded by the Commonwealth Government’s Higher Education Participation and Partnerships Program, to improve the participation rates of students from communities under-represented in higher education.
