Sydney University Cricket Club (SUCC) representatives Ryan Carters, Scott Henry and Sean Abbott have been rewarded for their outstanding 2013/14 seasons, after Cricket NSW today announced the trio were NSW Blues contracted players.
Opening batsman Ryan Carters has been upgraded from a ‘rookie’ to a full State contract. The SUSF Elite Athlete Program (EAP) scholarship holder (Bachelor of Economics) scored 861 runs last season in the Bupa Sheffield Shield to finish third on the list of run-scorers.
Fellow opener and former EAP scholarship holder Scott Henry and all-rounder Sean Abbott have retained their full State contracts after impressive seasons.
Abbott was particularly consistent for the Blues, going on to win the Steve Waugh Medal as the Sheffield Shield champions’ best player of the season. He picked up 27 wickets in the Shield competition and was the leading wicket-taker (16) in the one-day cup – which NSW lost in the final to Queensland in October.
It was a big year for Carters, Henry and Abbott. All three players were part of the NSW squad that defeated Western Australia in the Sheffield Shield and the Sydney University team that claimed the 2013/14 Sydney Grade Cricket first grade premiership.
