The Sydney Uni Rugby League Club division one side moved into third spot on the NSW Tertiary Rugby League (NSWTRL) table following a comprehensive Round 4 victory over Cumberland College on Saturday at Henson Park.

Leading 22-10 at halftime, Sydney Uni went on with the job in second half to record an impressive 48-16 win.

Two tries to Jay Parker and another seven tries spread throughout the team kept the scoreboard ticking over, peppering the industrious Cumberland side with some solid attacking flair. An excellent team display was ably supported by key defensive efforts from SUSF Elite Athlete Program (EAP) scholarship holder Liam Coe and teammate Adam Sarkis – both players adding to the controlled performance from a team that appears to be gelling well.

New players William Groom and Graham Harris added to the mobility of the forward pack, while big front row forward Richard Crichton added size and grunt to the ruck, making his presence felt in the second half. Zayde Alvarado demonstrated his flexibility and value as an interchange player, playing in a number of positions.

The Kobe Jones man of the match award went to William Grooms. William collects his $100 voucher to Kobe Jones.

Aiming for a fourth straight victory, Sydney Uni’s division two side fell just short against a strong and experienced ANU outfit possessing plenty of division one ability. In what can be seen as a positive in the game, regardless of the makeup of the ANU side, the Sydney Uni boys went down mainly due to a number of mistakes and a lack of possession by the side as a whole. Otherwise, a number of strong defensive efforts from Adam Irvine, Kurt Lewis, Alfred Fifita all contributed to keeping the game tight throughout. The side can take great confidence in the outcome, and still sit on top of the ladder for the inaugural season back.

The Kobe Jones man of the match award went to Adam Irvine.  Adam also receives his $100 voucher to Kobe Jones.
