Former SUSF Elite Athlete Program (EAP) scholarship holder Jessica Fox has maintained her position at the top of the canoe slalom summit after winning two gold medals at the 2014 ICF Junior/U23 World Championships over the weekend.
The Olympic silver medallist turned in another champagne display to win gold in the women’s under-23 K1 and C1 events, before adding bronze in the women’s under-23 K1 team event on the final day of racing. Fox’s triumph in the K1 and C1 events marked the first time a paddler had won both titles at an under-23 world championship.
Fox said she was particularly happy with K1 gold after missing the final of the event at last year’s junior/under-23 world championships.
“This is definitely a really sweet victory, revenge I think for last year,” she said.
“I was really really gutted after last year, so to win on my home course is a really sweet feeling. I can’t thank everyone enough.”
Fox was a University of Sydney student and SUSF EAP scholarship holder while representing Australia at the 2012 Olympic Games.
