Sydney Uni Hockey Club representative and SUSF Elite Athlete Program (EAP) scholarship holder Mathilda Carmichael has scored her first Hockeyroos goal in a 4-0 victory over China.
The defenders first ever Hockeyroos goal was sandwiched by goals from Georgia Nanscawen and Kellie White, whose late double gave the Hockeyroos a deserved margin of victory.
Discussing Carmichael’s performance, Hockeyroos head coach Adam Commens said, “It was a great effort by Mathilda. We use her as a spare forward and it’s not her natural playing position. She’s doing really well and it gives our forwards a bit of a break. I think it’s fair to say both myself and the team are very pleased with her performance tonight.”
Carmichael debuted for the Hockeyroos from the bench in their 3-0 defeat of Canada in October last year. She currently has 12 Hockeyroos caps.
The Hockeyroos are competing in a Six Nations Tournament in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand and they next meet Korea in their fourth match of the series on Thursday evening at 3pm AEST.
