Sydney University have begun their 2014 season in emphatic fashion, thumping Queanbeyan by 72 points in round two of the North East Australian Football League (NEAFL) in Canberra on Sunday.
The Students started better in water logged conditions and never stopped as they held the home side goalless for the first half on the way to a 15.19 (109) to 5.7 (37) victory.
Sydney Uni shared the goals around, with 12 players registering majors. Tim Barrett kicked three, while Kelvin Barnes scored two in the wet conditions.
In defence, the Students were miserly. The Tigers had to wait until the 26th minute of the third quarter before Matthew Bernasconi soccered through the Tigers’ first goal.
The Uni midfield was dominant, starting with former Eastlake ruckman Max Wilson, as they seemed to have time and space to pinpoint their forwards.
The Students will now turn their attention to the Sydney Hills Eagles, who have yet to register a win from their first two outings. The game will take place at 2pm on Saturday at Bruce Purser Reserve.
