Former SUSF Elite Athlete Program (EAP) scholarship holder Murray Stewart won three titles at last week’s Australian Canoeing National Sprint Championships at the West Lakes Club in Adelaide.

Stewart, a University of Sydney graduate, completed the treble over 1000 metres adding the K1 and K2 titles to the K4 title he won on Wednesday.

The K4 2012 Olympic gold medallist produced a scintillating time of 3:36.12 in the K1 1000m final to finish 3.14 seconds ahead of arch rival Ken Wallace. Stewart then went on to win the K2 1000 final alongside K4 1000 teammate, Queensland’s Jacob Clear. The experienced pair showed their class, finishing more than two boat lengths ahead of second placegetters Wallace and David Smith in a time of 3:14.09.

Stewart’s results have guaranteed him selection in the 2014 Australian Senior Canoe Sprint Team and should see him represent Australia at this year’s World Cup and World Championship team.
