In a move that shows growing confidence from the rugby league community, Sydney University Rugby League Football Club player Scott Bunch has been selected to play for the NSW Universities team in an upcoming match against Queensland Universities in May. The match will take place at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.
The recruitment pool for the NSW Universities team is broad; all students playing in the NSW Tertiary Student Rugby League, affiliated NSWRL competitions, the Ron Massey Cup, the Toyota Cup or the VB NSW Cup are eligible for selection. Players participating in the match in May will form the selection pool to form the 2014 Australian Universities squad, which will tour the Pacific Islands in October.
Scott is an undergraduate at Sydney University, studying for his bachelor’s degree in health sciences. Prior to joining SURLFC, he played junior representative football for the Balmain Tigers.
Club President Chris Kintis said, “Scott’s a great player, and it’s fantastic to see him getting recognition for the effort he puts in with the club. We’re looking forward to his performance in the match and a NSW Universities victory.”
The Club takes pride in Scott’s selection for the NSW Universities team, particularly in this comeback year. Players of Scott’s calibre are invaluable assets to the club and the university, and the club anticipates that this announcement is the first of many.
Congratulations, Scott, and best of luck to you and the NSW Universities team in May!
