Sydney University and Northern District will contest the 2013-14 Sydney Grade Cricket Limited Overs final after heavy rain and bad light caused havoc with the semi-finals on Sunday.

Only 8.3 overs were possible in the semi-final between Sydney University and Penrith, at University No.1 Oval, before bad light and rain caused play to be abandoned, with Penrith 2-32 having been sent in to bat.

No play was possible in the other semi-final between Northern District and Manly-Warringah at Mark Taylor Oval.

As the higher ranked teams, Sydney University and Northern District moved through to the final, to be played at Sydney University No.1 Oval on Sunday, March 2.

Bad weather also affected the first day of the Round 13 (two-day) matches on Saturday.

All of Sydney University’s five grades were able to take to the field in matches against Sutherland, with First Grade in the most precarious position at 6-58 in reply to Sutherland’s 83 at No.1 Oval.

Having sent the visitors in to bat, Sydney University’s Liam Robertson (4-7), David Miller (2-11), Tim Ley (2-14) and Nigel Cowell (2-29) made the most of the ordinary conditions to skittle the opposition batting line-up headed by Nic Maddison.

But the hosts didn’t fare much better and an interesting day awaits next Saturday.
