Furthering their mission of supporting players with the best in resources and staff, Sydney University Rugby League Football Club has brought two new coaches on board.

Steve Freeborn will take up the position of Head Coach for the club. No stranger to the club, Freeborn has held both assistant and head coach positions in previous years. Freeborn has experience at various levels, from trainer and coaching positions at the Penrith Panthers and coaching NSW Combined High Schools Representative teams, to overseas coaching experience gained with Castleford Tigers, Gateshead Thunder, York City and Whitehaven in the United Kingdom. Freeborn will be responsible for overall coaching direction and strategy for the club.

Also joining the club as Football Coach is Timothy White, another past Sydney Uni player that the club is pleased to welcome back into the fold. White’s experience has seen him recently coaching the Under 18s NSW Combined Catholic Colleges team, and he’s also a member of the Melbourne Storm NRL High Performance Unit. In 2012, White was an Assistant Australian Schoolboys Coach, and he has also gained valuable experience in a number of roles with the Wests Tigers and as the trainer for Fiji in the 2008 Rugby League World Cup.

The coaches will focus on bringing together their exposure to different levels of rugby league and their past familiarity with the club to create the optimal, professional training environment for the team.

“One of the club’s aims is to play in higher level competitions as well as participating in the NSW Tertiary Rugby League competition,” said Club President, Chris Kintis. “We want to provide our players with the skills and knowledge to compete on a larger scale. Bringing in quality staff like Steve and Tim, with their level of experience and their history with us, is a crucial step in achieving that aim. I’m excited to see how they develop the team going forward.”

Sydney University Rugby League Football Club welcomes the appointment of Steve and Tim, and looks forward to watching the team progress in their capable hands.
