Sydney Uni Women’s Rowing Club (SUWRC) quad four was the first women’s boat over the line and under the bridge in the annual Santa Sprint from the Opera House to the Harbour Bridge, staged on Christmas Day.
SUWRC competed alongside a few friends and family and about 30 crews (everything from singles to eights) from clubs along the harbour.
While the weather was a bit glum, it was perfect for rowing – cool and almost no wind, and the rain held off for the race.
The usual festive treats – lollies, some mince tarts, orange juice and the odd champers – were shared before the start, as the crews bobbed up and down in the Manly ferry wash off the Opera House, and the race set off in a not very orderly manner at around 7.15am.
The SUWRC women’s quad four finished first of the women’s boats, while the clubs eights crew wasn’t too far behind.
