Sydney University Cricket Club (SUCC) leg spinner Jonte Pattison has been selected to represent NSW at the 2013/14 Cricket Australia U/17 Male National Championships in Adelaide.

Following a 2012/13 season of solid performances for Sydney University’s Second Grade, Poidevin-Gray Shield (U21) and AW Green Shield (U16) sides, the 16-year old school boy from NSW’s Central Coast has taken six wickets in four Sydney Grade Cricket matches this season.

“Jonte made his first grade debut last season (playing one game), and this season he has played every game in the top grade under the guidance of experienced captain Greg Mail,” explained SUCC Assistant Coach Beau Casson.

Casson, himself a retired Australian Test spinner, is best placed to gauge Pattison’s skills with the ball in hand and he is very impressed by what he sees.

“Jonte is a very talented young player who continues to improve,” said Casson.

“He has the basics down pat and he has developed his bowling and batting skills since joining the club.”

Last season Pattison showed his immense talents also extend to batting, where he plundered 331 runs at an average of 47.29 in the AW Green Shield competition, winning him the batting aggregate award.

Pattison and the rest of the NSW U17 squad will depart for the Championships in Adelaide on Sunday, 12 January 2014. The team will play 50 over and Two-Day matches, with the side on top of the competition ladder at the conclusion of the tournament declared the winner.
