Sydney University women’s Reserve Grade soccer team came agonisingly close to the 2013 Premier League title when they pushed Manly United to a penalty shoot-out in the season decider at Blacktown Football Park on Sunday.
The game finished at 2-all, with Stephanie Ambrose goaling in each half for the Students, forcing the match into extra time.
But neither side could break the deadlock and the match ended in a penalty shoot-out which Manly United won 5-3 – the Students didn’t take their final kick, being in an unwinnable situation.
The news was better for Sydney University’s Under 12 girl’s team who won the 2013 title with a 1-nil win over Football NSW Institute.
Sydney University also had two teams chasing titles in the Men’s Premier League Division 2 competition, with the Under 15s losing 3-2 to Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC at Jensen Park on Saturday, and the Under 12s going down 8-7 to Spirit FC in extra time after the match finished at 2-all.
