With grand final season under way, Sydney University teams have been grabbing their share of the spoils in Sydney competitions.
The Rugby Club celebrated their 150th anniversary by appearing in all grand finals – three Colts and five grade – and coming away with seven titles.
They won the First Grade Shute Shield with a 51-6 demolition of Eastwood and added the Second, Fourth and Fifth grade titles, along with the First and Second grade Colts titles to the trophy cabinet. They also won the Club Championship and Colts Club Championship.
Meanwhile, Sydney University women’s hockey club won the coveted Metro League 1 title with a 2-nil win over Briars, played on the Olympic Pitch on Sunday. Nina Khoury and Mathilda Carmichael were the goalscorers.
Not to be outdone, Sydney University’s women’s AFL team won the Division One grand final with a comprehensive 51-25 win over Balmain Dockers at Blacktown International Sports Park on Sunday.
Adriane Garland, Stephanie Walker, Aoife McDonnell, Meredith Gray, Lara Creber, Emma Yuen and Libby Sadler kicked majors for the Students, while the best players on the day included Jennifer Lew, Stacey Lancaster, Lara Creber, Rachael Stack, Meredith Gray, Belinda Michalk.
Sydney University men’s club won the Division Two flag with a 62-48 win over Manly Warringah Wolves.
Lachlan McKendrick (2), Joshua Cutrupi, Jarryd Boyd, Nicholas Lye, Jeffrey Melville, Andrew Holmes and Liam Huxtable scored majors, while the best players included Boyd, Huxtable, Ben Foley, Michael Carey, Gary Burch, Alexander Hawtin.
Sydney University’s Division Four team were beaten 14.11: 95 to 4.4: 28 by Pennant Hills Demons in their title tilt.
Sydney University Soccer (Football) Club still has three teams alive in the Women’s Premier Division and the Men’s Premier League.
The women’s Reserve Grade will meet Manly United FC in the Grand Final at 1pm on Sunday, September 22, while the Under 12s will meet FNSW Institute in the Grand Final at 8.30am on Sunday, September 22.
The men’s Under 15 side will meet Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC in the Grand Final on Saturday, September 21.
And the CSNA-Sydney University Netball Division Five team won their grand final on Monday night with a 43-34 win over Hills District 34 at Anne Clark Centre, Lidcombe.
