The Brydens Sydney Uni Flames have secured the prized signing of Australian Gems U19 World Championships star Casey Samuels.
Samuels, who was one of the Gems best performers at the recent bronze medal winning World Championships campaign, has signed with the Flames for the 2013/14 WNBL season.
“Even though we just missed out on the gold medal match, I am really happy with how I played over in Lithuania,” explained Samuels.
Despite only turning 19 last month, Samuels has already played three seasons in the WNBL with the AIS and the Canberra Capitals.
Samuels spoke of her excitement of playing in the WNBL for the Flames, having played all of her junior basketball for the Bankstown Basketball Association.
“It’s really good to be back home (Sydney) and playing with the Flames. I’ve always really enjoyed working with Karen (Dalton) in representative teams. I feel really settled in Sydney and I can study here as well (NSW School of Massage).”
Flames Head Coach Karen Dalton said she was looking forward to working with the 19 year old this season, saying “Casey is very athletic, has great length for a perimeter player and she’s a good three point shooter.”
“It’s great to have another local girl back in Sydney playing for the Flames.”
The Brydens Sydney Uni Flames will play their first 2013/14 WNBL home game against the Dandenong Rangers at Brydens Stadium (at the Sydney Uni Sports & Aquatic Centre) on Friday October 11 at 7.30pm.
