The Australian women’s water polo team, featuring three Sydney Uni athletes, have moved into the semi-finals of the 2013 FINA Aquatic World Championships after a 9-5 victory over defending champions Greece in Barcelona.
Sydney Uni Women’s Water Polo Club (SUWWPC) representatives Hannah Buckling, Keesja Gofers and Lea Barta were all part of the Stingers team that built on a 3-1 first quarter to seal their first world championships semi-final appearance since 2007.
Australia will now turn their attention to a semi-final matchup against Russia, while hosts Spain will face Hungary in the other semi-final.
Buckling and Gofers are both SUSF Elite Athlete Program (EAP) scholarship holders.
