Sydney University made full use of their available Super 15 players in a 10-try to three win over Northern Suburbs at North Sydney Oval on Saturday.
Hooker Tolu Latu and winger Greg Jedoulev scored two apiece in the 64-19 romp which featured 12 Super players in the Sydney University ranks and two in the Northern Suburbs side.
The win rounded out a clean-sweep of the grade and Colts matches, edging the Students further ahead on the Club Championship ladder. Sydney University head the Club Championship with 2773 points, ahead of Eastwood (2510), Manly (2319) and Randwick (2163).
Eastwood maintained their three-point lead in the Shute Shield, sitting on 63 points after 15 rounds, ahead of Sydney University (60), Southern Districts (57), and late swoopers Manly (51), West Harbour (48) and Eastern Suburbs (41).
Sydney University host Southern District this Saturday and Gordon the following week, before rounding out the season proper against Randwick at Coogee Oval on August 17.
Their chances of snaring the minor premiership rest with Eastwood’s opponents in the final three rounds: Gordon, Eastern Suburbs and Warringah. The finals begin on August 24.
Sydney University Seconds sit third on the competition ladder on 61 points, behind Randwick (65) and Manly (63), with Eastwood (60), Northern Suburbs (52) and Gordon (30) making up the top six.
The Students hold a big lead in the Third Grade competition, sitting on 71 points, with Eastwood (60), Randwick (55), Manly (51), West Harbour (45) and Eastern Suburbs (42) making up the top six.
Randwick head up the Fourth Grade ladder on 67 points, ahead of Sydney University (66), Eastwood (61), Northern Suburbs (48), Eastern Suburbs (44) and Manly (35).
Sydney University head up the three Colts grades and the Colts Club Championship.
Meanwhile, SUFC has six players in the 40-man Wallaby train-on squad announced on Friday, including winger Peter Betham, utility back Israel Folau, five-eighth Bernard Foley, flanker-second-rower Ben McCalman, halfback Nick Phipps and prop Paddy Ryan.
