Marrickville’s 7-4 win over Sydney University at Petersham on Sunday saw them edge ahead of the Students in the Sydney Winter League competition.
Despite the loss, Sydney University Baseball Club have three titles in sight with three rounds to be played in the competition.
First Grade are second to Marrickville on run difference, with both sides having won seven, lost two and drawn one of the 10 rounds played. Petersham and Pirates make up the top four.
Sydney University Seconds top the ladder and have the minor premiership at their mercy with eight wins, a loss and a draw to their credit. Marrickville, Hawkesbury and Petersham make up the top four.
The Cynics Thirds are clinging to fourth spot on the ladder which is headed by UNSW, with Petersham in second place and Pirates holding down third berth.
Sydney University’s run home includes games against sixth-placed Cronulla, at Sydney University No.2 Oval this weekend, followed by fifth-placed Hawkesbury, at Bensons Lane, and UNSW at Sydney University. The Winter League semi-finals start on the weekend of August 17-18.
