SUSF Elite Athlete Program (EAP) scholarship holder and swimmer Hayley White has earned the Australian University Games squad their eighth medal at the 2013 Summer Universiade in Russia.
White (2:09.84) secured a bronze medal after being touched out by fellow Australian Madison Wilson (2:09.22) and Daryna Zevina (2:09.41) from the Ukraine in the 200m backstroke.
White’s medal is Sydney University’s third of the campaign. Swimmer Andrew Abood (silver) and runner Ian Dewhurst (bronze) won medals during day 5.
In other sporting news in Russia, the Australian men’s water polo team have strolled through to the quarter-finals after smashing Canada by 17 goals in their final group match. Sydney University representative Paul Sindone scored twice and contributed an assist in the 20-3 victory. Australia will face far stiffer competition when they take on Italy in their quarter-final matchup on Saturday.
Sydney University has a total of 17 representatives competing for Australia at the 27th Summer Universiade in Russia. Please note that Anneliese Rubie was named in the team but will not compete due to injury.
