SUSF & NSWIS Swimming Program of Excellence backstroke specialist Hayley White will head into next month’s 2013 World University Summer Games in Russia with her confidence at an all-time high, after breaking the previously elusive 2:10 mark for the 200m at the Brisbane Time Trials.
Swimming over the weekend in her pet event – the 200m backstroke – World University Games swimmer and SUSF Elite Athlete Program (EAP) scholarship holder Hayley White (Bachelor of Human Movement and Health Education) continued her fine form finishing second (2:09.99) behind Queenslander Meagen Nay (2:08.66).
The 23-year olds extraordinary swim puts her just outside the world’s top 10 and is the fifth fastest 200m backstroke swum by an Australian woman ever.
White has been working with the SUSF & NSWIS Swimming Program of Excellence coaches Grant Stoelwinder and Scott Talbot this year and she has never swum better.
“Hayley’s improvement over the past 6 months has been outstanding,” said Stoelwinder.
“This has been created by a great-coach swimmer relationship that Scott (Talbot) and Hayley have formed in the pool.”
White’s focus will now switch to the 2013 World University Summer Games in Russia, which begins in the pool on July 10. White will swim in the 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke events.
Joining her in Russia will be teammates Andrew Abood, Melissa Mitchell and Keiran Qaium, along with coaches Stoelwinder and Talbot.
Fellow Program of Excellence squad member Matthew Abood will be taking part in the 2013 World Championships in Barcelona in July and August.
