Sydney Uni Women’s AFL (SUWAFL) player Jennifer Lew will play at the MCG this Saturday, after she was selected at pick 35 by Melbourne FC in the first ever women’s national draft.
Lew was selected by Melbourne after a strong performance for NSW at the recent Youth Girls National Championships in Cairns.
Lew, one of just two NSW girls selected in the draft, will line up for Melbourne against the Western Bulldogs on the hallowed MCG turf in a curtain raiser to the men’s Demons versus Bulldogs AFL match later that night.
“This is a huge step forward for women in AFL, and women in sport,” explained Lew.
“It will be the first time that women will get to display their passion and talent for the game on such a large arena.”
