Two Sydney University Ultimate Frisbee Club representatives and four former players have been selected in the country’s first ever mixed U23 Australian Ultimate Frisbee squad.
The Australian mixed (male and female) U23 squad, containing Yixuan Tua, Christian McBride (both current club members and University of Sydney students), Alex Peters, Benjamin Sutas, Maximilian Halden and Laura Manescu (all ex-students and former club representatives), will head Toronto in July to compete at the U23 Ultimate World Championships.
Peters, who will graduate from the University next year, is delighted with her selection in Australia’s debut mixed U23 squad and proud of her association with the Sydney University Ultimate Frisbee Club.
“I can’t wait to show the rest of the world just what Australian mixed Ultimate is all about,” said Peters. “I represented the University, SUSF and the club on numerous occasions at the Australian University Games, which played a vital role in my development as a player. I am very thankful for that.”
Peters got involved in the sport when she was 15 through a friend who had played at a high school gala day, “and loved it from the first time I played.”
Now 21, Peters has since played in two women’s and three mixed national championships and two Australian University Games, as well as playing overseas on exchange in the USA.
“I love the intensity of the game, and the fact that good spirit and sportsmanship is as important as playing ability at every level of the game.”
