The Sydney University American Football Club U19 Cubs team are just one win away from being crowned NSW state champions after Sydney Uni sealed their place in the NSW State Championship grand final with an exciting six point playoff victory against the Western Sydney Trojans.
The Cubs, who began the season with just one win from their first four games, were forced to do it the hard way as they overcame a 10 point defect in the second half to seal a 16-10 victory.
The catalyst for the victory was undoubtedly a gritty 20 minutes that saw the Cubs defence successfully defend two sets which prevented the Trojans from converting attempts at a 3 point field goal.
It was then up to the Cubs offense who drove the length of the field to score and convert two touch downs to seal a dramatic six point win and qualification into this weekend’s grand final.
This Saturday the Sydney Uni Cubs will lock horns with the Sutherland Seahawks in the NSW State Championship grand final. Kick-off is at 6.30pm at 5Sports, Caringbah.
