The Sydney Uni men’s handball team will attempt to qualify for their second consecutive IHF Super Globe tournament when they take on Auckland in a playoff to determine the Oceania Club Champions.
Sydney Uni, the defending Oceania Champions, will play Auckland twice this weekend at the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Halls. The winner will head to Qatar at the end of August to compete in the 2013 IHF Super Globe – where the best club teams around the world compete to be crowned world club champions.
At last year’s Super Globe Sydney Uni suffered four losses, including one loss to the 2011 champions THW Kiel, a team that spends $14 million per year on player wages. Despite the four losses Sydney Uni were extremely competitive and proved their worth at the Super Globe, stepping up to the speed and pressure of international club fixtures.
