  3. Gofers & Barta named in Australian Water Polo team

Sydney University Women’s Water Polo Club (SUWWPC) representatives Lea Barta and newly crowned Women’s National League MVP Keesja Gofers have been named in the Aussie Stingers squad for the women’s FINA World League qualifying rounds in New Zealand next week.

The team are spending three days in camp in Sydney this week before playing six games in as many days in Auckland against Asia/Oceania rivals China, Japan and New Zealand, starting on May 9. It’s a chance for Barta and Gofers to cement their position in the team for this year’s FINA World Championships in Barcelona.

Both Lions team mates have been in great form this season with Gofers – a SUSF Elite Athlete Program (EAP) scholarship holder – named as the Women’s National League’s Most Valuable Player following a 50 goal season in leading the Lions attack. Barta starred in the All Star game in goals, and has been rock solid all season for the Lions.
