The 2013 Sydney Rugby Union Premiership Rugby competition kicks off this weekend, with the Students from Sydney University Football Club (SUFC) taking on the Two Blues of Parramatta.

Parramatta continue to develop as a genuine threat within the Shute Shield competition, with the club recruiting exceptionally well in the off season.

Parramatta will be an enormous test for us this weekend, especially playing them at home in Merrylands,” explained SUFC Head Coach Chris Malone.

“Parramatta is to be congratulated on how they have turned their club around in the last couple of seasons. They have recruited well and are really starting to develop young players in the west, which is exactly what is needed for the future of rugby.”

“The game on the weekend promises to be a tough one, Parramatta have had very good results throughout the trials and have proven in the last couple of years, when given the opportunity, they have shown themselves to be very dangerous,” said Malone.

Tim Davidson will captain the side, playing his first round 1 Shute Shield game for the Students since 2008.

“I always love coming back to Sydney Uni; it feels like home for me,” said Davidson.

“I really enjoy playing for the club and giving back to a club that has given me so much joy over so many years. The players have been training hard since November and you can tell they are looking forward to the season commencing this weekend.”
