The Sydney University Wrestling Club capped off a sensational three days at the 2013 National Wrestling Championships, by winning three gold medals at the Gold Coast based event.
Arzhang Janipour – weighing 105kg – defied his significant weight disadvantage, as he conquered the 120kg seniors division. Janipour’s team mate Abakar Gadjiyer was victorious in the 96kg senior division.
Jayden Lawrence, who last year represented Australia at the World Junior Championships and narrowly missed selected for the 2012 London Olympics, was too strong in the 74kg junior and senior division, also winning gold.
Janipour, Gadjiyer and Lawrence will now turn their attention to the 2013 Oceania Championships held in Guam between April 8-12 and the 2013 Australia Cup, which is staged in Coolaroo, Victoria from April 17-19.
