Universities captain Alex Blackwell celebrated winning the Sydney Women’s Grade cricket 2012-13 minor premiership with a classic century in the final competition round – a win over Northern District at Mark Taylor Oval – on Saturday.

Blackwell, the Australian vice-captain in the recent World Cup triumph, cracked an unbeaten 104 off 81 balls as Universities posted 1-169 off 27 overs in reply to Northern District’s 167. She hit 16 boundaries in her 103-minute onslaught and shared  in a 110-run opening stand with Georgia Redmayne (31).

Universities finished on 95 points to collect the minor premiership, with Bankstown (79), Northern District (69) and Campbelltown-Camden (59) making up the top four leading into next weekend’s semi-finals.

Universities Second Grade finished fifth on the ladder with 52 points. The semi-finalists in Second Grade will be St George-Sutherland (117 points), Northern District (93), Bankstown (80) and Gordon (79).

St George-Sutherland won the Third Grade minor premiership, finishing the season on 35.3 points, with Gordon (33.1), Universities (27.8) and Northern District (23.2) making up the top four.

In the Brewer Shield (Under 17s), Sydney collected the minor premiership with 45.2 points, ahead of Campbelltown-Camden (42.5), Penrith (32.6) and St George-Sutherland (31.4). Universities finished fifth on 29.7 points,  just missing out on a semi-final berth.

St George-Sutherland won the Club Championship in the women’s competition with 1152.60 points, ahead of Bankstown (937.30) and Universities second (936.30).

After a stellar 2011-12 season – when they collected the First and Second grade men’s titles – Sydney University’s Third grade is the only team assured of a finals berth heading into the final game of the season. It is also mathematically possible for the Second’s team to qualify for the finals, but they will require a victory and a host of results to go their way.

In First grade, Sydney University will host Manly-Warringah at University No.1 Oval in the final round match of the season, a limited overs fixture on Saturday.
