Sydney Uni Boxing Club (SUBxC) representative Leonie Lum is a dual title holder after being crowned League Boxing Inc. NSW Central Coast women’s lightweight Champion following a unanimous decision victory last weekend.
Lum showed far too much class at the Beachcomber Hotel in Toukley on Saturday night, out-boxing Carly Woods from the Legends Gym at Kensington over three two minute rounds.
It is Lum’s second title victory in the last six months, after she secured a TKO against Jess Adams (Tuff’ n Up Boxing Gym, Newcastle) on September 29, 2012 at the Wangi Wangi Workers Club to claim the League Boxing Inc. NSW women’s lightweight title.
Lum’s fellow SUBxC teammates didn’t fare so well, as Felix Fenely (67kg division) and Tom Unkovic (75kg division) were defeated on points by Nathan Sao (Blacktown PCYC) and split decision by Matt Nierne (Tuff’ n Up Boxing Gym, Newcastle) respectively.
In other boxing news, SUBxC is looking forward to a big year with several Boxing NSW and Boxing Australia events coming up over the next few months. The club also welcomes a new SUSF scholarship holder for 2013; Nadine Apetz. Apetz is the current national German welterweight titleholder, a title which she successfully defended in December 2012.
