Competition favourites KFC Breakers women from Brisbane proved too strong for all their Sydney opponents, including Sydney Uni, as they swept their Sydney road trip 6-0, taking them to a 10-0 record in the National Water Polo League.

The Lions had the star-studded Breakers on toast with a 4-1 lead at half time but played catch-up water polo rather than consolidation to slip to a late 5-4 loss.

With scores level the Lions had a late opportunity to take the lead but an extra man attempt narrowly missed.

The Breakers went up the other end and scored the winner.

In the return game KFC went out to an early lead which the Lions couldn’t catch, going down 7-2.

The Lions can take heart that they have played two of the top four ranked teams early in the competition, having split results with highly rated Fremantle.

In the men’s competition Sydney Uni split their double header against the Breakers, going down 8-7 in their first encounter, before bouncing back strongly to defeat the Queenslanders 10-8 on Saturday afternoon.

Sydney Uni now plays at Drummoyne on Saturday at 6pm (women) and 7.15pm (men) before hosting Cronulla on Sunday at 1pm (men) and 2.30pm (women).
