Young top-order batsman Jonte Pattison cracked 75 and 76 not out on successive days to help Sydney University to wins in the first two rounds of the 2012-13 A.W. Green Shield (Under 16) competition played at Sydney University No.1 Oval.
Pattison opened the innings in the first round match against Mosman and topscored as Sydney University posted 225 off 59 of their allotted 60 overs. Ryan Danne (67), Benjamin Mitchell (27) and Jack Maddocks (25) also batted solidly for the hosts, who then restricted Mosman to 7-141 off 60 overs.
The following day Pattison batted at No.3 and again topscored as Sydney University posted 3-142 off 27 overs in reply to Campbelltown-Camden’s 141. Dante Otto (30 not out) and Maddocks (22) also helped in the quick run-chase.
Sydney University will meet Gordon at Killara Oval tomorrow (Tuesday), Bankstown at Sydney University No.2 Oval on Thursday, UNSW at St Andrew’s College Oval on Sunday, January 13, Eastern Suburbs at Waverley Oval on Tuesday, January 15 and Sutherland at Glenn McGrath Oval on Thursday, January 17 before the quarter-finals are played on Tuesday, January 22.
The Poidevin-Gray (Under 21) side also started the new year on a positive note with a nine-wicket win over UNSW at the Village Green. Sydney University posted a quick-fire 1-165 off 31 overs to run down UNSW’s 162 off 37 overs after the hosts had won the toss and batted.
The regular 2012-13 season competition will resume this weekend when Sydney University Firsts host Penrith at No.1 Oval in a two-day (Saturday and Sunday) match. The lower grade matches will be one-dayers.
