The Sydney Uni Lions have secured the Gridiron NSW Minor Premiership after dealing a psychological blow to possible grand final opponents the UTS Gators with a strong 54-34 victory.
In a see-saw offensive shootout that saw UTS take the lead for part of the first half, the Lions showed their mettle and continued to convert possessions into points until the Gators couldn’t hold on and started to make mistakes and turn the ball over to the Lion’s defense.
Saturday’s victory was Sydney Uni’s 80th consecutive win and helped to sew up their ninth Minor Premiership in a row.
The Lions have one more regular season game this weekend – against the Raiders at Neptune Park at 7pm on Saturday night – before a bye and then the finals, where they be shooting for their 10th straight Championship.
