City of Sydney Netball Association/Sydney University umpire Steven Jackson was rewarded for his efforts in season 2012 with the Neita Matthews OAM Umpires Encouragement Award at the 2012 Netball NSW State Dinner on Saturday night.
Named in honour of Netball NSW Life Member and Hall of Fame umpiring legend Neita Matthews OAM, the award recognises an umpire who demonstrates a desire to strive for excellence on court, shows consistency in performance throughout the DOOLEYS State League competition and continues to improve their knowledge of the game.
Originally identified through Regional State League in the West/Central West region, Steven, an accredited B Badge umpire, moved to Sydney from Mudgee three years ago and worked hard in 2012 throughout State Championships, State Age Championships and DOOLEYS State League.
Netball NSW Umpire and Officials Development Coordinator Jan Simpson said Steven was a deserved winner.
“He really knuckled down this year and worked hard to improve – he came to all the Umpire camps to help out, umpired State Champs, State Age, Night Interdistrict, and ended up umpiring DOOLEYS State League Division Two matches at the end of the season which is fantastic for a B Badge,” Simpson said.
