Sydney University Baseball Club representative Dean Aldridge has signed with American Major League Baseball (MLB) team the Detroit Tigers after a sensational first half of the year.

Since January, Aldridge has won gold with the Under 18 NSW Team at the National Youth Championships in Geelong, been part of the AAA national team that won gold at the Oceania Qualification Series in Guam, and played at the NSW schoolboys team championships in Adelaide where he was subsequently named 1st baseman for the Australian Schoolboys All Stars team.

One of the reasons Aldridge has been picked up the Tigers is his amazing velocity when pitching. During the U18 National Championships in 2012, he reached speeds of 92 miles per hour on some of his pitches. This is consistent with the speeds thrown by Major League pitchers in America.

Aldridge is currently on the Gold Coast as part of the Major League Baseball Australian Academy Program.
