The Southern Design Sydney Uni Flames continue to be active in the off-season with two more player signings in as many weeks.
Returning to the 2012–13 roster after a season with the Townsville Fire is 4/5 post player Ellie Manou. Averaging 3.8 points and 5.4 rebounds per game last season, Ellie will be looking at consolidating her spot in the Flames line up alongside her old teammates.
“Ellie has been working very hard with our strength and conditioning coach since returning to Sydney to ensure she is in peak physical condition by October,” Head Coach Karen Dalton said.
“Ellie will bring a strong physical presence inside the paint at both ends of the floor. Ellie is an agile post player and we will be looking to utilise her quickness against the bigger post players in the league.”
Joining Manou in the paint is forward/centre Tayla Roberts who has made the move north leaving Melbourne where she played the 2011–12 WNBL Season with the Bulleen Boomers. A product of the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) and a 2011 U19 Australian Gems team member, Roberts is recognised as one of the best up and coming young players in the WNBL.
“At 191cm, Tayla is our second tallest player on the roster and I am looking forward to working closely with her in further developing her skills so we can really utilise her height and strength next season.”
Roberts will join her team mates in September after the current SEABL Season where she is playing with the Launceston Tornadoes.
