Sydney University Boat Club (SUBC ) members and Sydney Uni Elite Athlete Program (EAP) scholarship holders Ryan Edwards and Sasha Belonogoff teamed up with Ben Morley and Jay Ditmarsch as part of the Australian U23 Quad that won the Queen Mother Challenge Cup at the 2012 Henley Royal Regatta in London, England, over the weekend.

The Australian U23 Quad had to row from behind in the final of the Cup after trailing the Canadian Senior Quad at the Barrier.

At Fawley, the Australian Quad hit the lead with a sustained push only 50 metres from the line and went on to win by half a length.

The crew of Edwards (Grad Dip Commerce), Sasha Belonogoff (B.App.Sci. – Ex.Sp.Sci.), Morley and Ditmarsch were having their first and final lead up regatta for the World U23 Championships to be held later this month in Trakai, Lithuania.

Sydney Uni’s Rowing Director of Coaching Mark Prater was full of praise for his crew saying, “They showed real character to come from a length down with 700 meters to go to take out the win.”
