Sydney University representatives Thomas Whalan and Sam McGregor have been selected in the 13-player Australian Olympic Games Water Polo team.

Whalan, a Sydney University Lions National Water Polo League (NWPL) representative and former Sydney University Elite Athlete Program (EAP) scholarship holder (B. Commerce/ B. Laws), will be competing at his fourth consecutive Olympics.

McGregor, a former Lion and EAP scholarship holder, will be competing in his third straight Olympic Games.

The 13-player team is Joel Dennerley, James Clark, Jamie Beadsworth, Richie Campbell, Tim Cleland, Johnno Cotterill, Rhys Howden, Billy Miller, Sam McGregor, Aidan Roach, Thomas Whalan, Gavin Woods, Aaron Younger.

The team will be attempting to improve upon their 8th place 2008 Olympic Games finish in Beijing.

The Australian team managed 5th place in both the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, and the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, the highest Olympic placing so far.
