Sydney Uni Sailing Club (SUSC) members Nick Howe and Jeronimo Harrison were part of a 6 man team that finished second at the NSW Teams Racing States last weekend.

Howe (Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Science) Harrison (Bachelor Commerce & Engineering) – both Sydney University Elite Athlete Program (EAP) scholarship holders and previous Australian University Games (AUG) representatives – and their other team-mates sailed through the league rounds with 1 loss from 8 races.

In the quarter-finals they defeated UNSW with ease, and then in the semi-finals they faced the impressive Northbridge Sailing Club team.

They lost the first race, before rallying to win two more and advance to the final against CYCA.

The final had to be cut to 1 race owing to the fading light, and here the CYCA used their match racing skills to dominate the start line and lead the race from start to finish.

After a long, cold day on the water, the team said they were happy just to get to the grand final and sail against another strong team.

Their results against the other universities bode well for this year’s AUG.

SUSC’s B Team finished 9th out of 19 teams.
