This Saturday sees the 2012 Sydney Rugby Union kick off its’ Premiership Rugby competition, with Sydney University playing local rivals West Harbour.
Grade teams will get the opportunity to kick off their season with a game at home, while Colts will travel the short distance to play West Harbour at Concord Oval.
“There has been an obvious increase in the excitement levels at training, the players are just ready to get on the field and play,” said Director of Rugby Todd Dammers.
“It has been a very intensive off season and all their hard work off the field will be put into action this weekend against West Harbour.”
“This will certainly be a tough first round match for the Club, not only 1st Grade. West Harbour have a strong, physical presence with a number strong ball running threats, we will certainly need to be on guard and start the game strongly,” said Todd Louden, Sydney University Head Coach.
“The White Ribbon Cup is a joint initiative between the Inner West Domestic Violence Liaison Committee (IWDVLC), West Harbour and Sydney University,” said Executive General Manager, Baden Stephenson. “The day aims to demonstrate a commitment to prevent violence against women by changing attitudes and behaviours in Australian society.”
The White Ribbon Cup will be contested in the 1st Grade game and a presentation will be conducted at the conclusion of the match.
