Sydney University Athletics Club (SUAC) member Jack Colreavy led home 4500 athletes in the Sydney Morning Herald Sun Run held on Sunday over a 6.5km course from Dee Why to Manly.
Colreavy, an Arts student and Sydney Uni Elite Athlete Program (EAP) scholarship holder, clocked a fast time of 20min 07sec to claim the 2012 Sun Run crown ahead of Keith Macpherson (20.22) and Vlad Shatrov (20.49), who filled the minor placings.
Hannah Flannery won the women’s event in 23.13, ahead of Tara Prowse (24.04) and Reegan Ellis (24.39).
Colreavy was backing up from Saturday’s NSW Club Championships at Sydney Olympic Park where he ran 10th in the Men’s 3000m event in 9:04.36. His SUAC team-mates Russell Dessaix-Chin (8:27.07) and Hugh Williams (8:34.00) filled first and second places, while another SUAC member Nick Bellemore (9:00.37) finished 9th.
The young Sydney University runner’s season has included a win in the 10km Balmain Fun Run last November, and a win in the 3000m steeplechase at the Illawong and Districts Athletics Club’s New Year meet on January 4.
