The Sydney University Athletic Club (SUAC) put in a dominant display in the ninth and final round of the NSW Open Pennant Championship to finish as the Champion Open Club in NSW.

SUAC lead the competition from start to finish, eventually beating home UTS Norths by a whopping 453 points.

“To single out any athletes contribution would be difficult as most of the club’s athletes contributed in what was a very pleasing team effort,” said excited SUAC Coach Dean Gleeson.

The win continues a stellar year for the club, with wins in the NSW Club Championships, the Open Men’s Winter Premiership and gold at the Australian University Games on the Gold Coast.

The next club event on the Athletics NSW calendar will be held on February 4th when the club aims to defend its NSW Club Championship title.

Last weekend also saw the beginning of the Australian Athletics Tour with a number of SUAC athletes competing in Newcastle at the Hunter Track Classic.

The standout was Club Captain Lachlan Renshaw who moved up from his usual 800m and contested the 1500m.

Renshaw finished fifth, but more importantly recorded a time of 3.42 – a six second personal best and a very good start to the season.

Renshaw will contest the 800m at the Sydney and Melbourne Track Classics where he will be hoping to secure a time to gain him selection for this year’s Olympic Games in London.
