Sydney University have been announced as the Overall Australian University Sport Champions for 2011.
The award is calculated by adding up the number of pennants each university won throughout the year. This includes all the Australian Uni Championships (AUCs), Eastern Uni Games (EUGs), Snowsports and the Australian Uni Games (AUGs).
Sydney University finished with 15 pennants – 11 achieved at the AUGs, two from Snowsports and two from the AUC Distance Running Championships. The second placed universities (University of Melbourne and Monash University) finished on 8 pennants each.
“To finish with nearly double the amount of pennants as the team in second place is a testament to the dominance Sydney Uni displayed this year and the amazing effort put in by all of the participating Sydney University students,” said Sydney University Sport & Fitness Executive Director, Rob Smithies.
