Reigning Olympic champion and Sydney University Elite Athlete Program (EAP) scholarship holder Matthew Mitcham has returned to the winner’s circle at the 2011 Australian Diving Championships, clinching the men’s 10m platform title.
The B. Arts & Science student showed no visible signs of the abdominal injury that has disrupted his year, including forcing him out of this year’s world championships. Mitcham scored a solid 480.05 to win by nearly 50 points from his nearest competitor.
Fellow Sydney University EAP scholarship holder and M. Health Science student Alexandra Croak also performed solidly during the championships; collectively claimed gold in the women’s 10m synchronised platform with partner Melissa Wu.
The championships were a precursor to the upcoming Olympic trials, which take place in April 2012.
