Karen Dalton of the Southern Design Sydney Uni Flames and Chris Lucas of the Townsville Fire have been named joint WNBL Coach of the Month Award winners for October, with voters unable to split the head coaches of the league’s only two undefeated sides of the first four rounds.
Both coaches led their sides to 5-0 records to open the 2011/12 WNBL season, with Dalton’s Flames recording victories against the AIS, Adelaide, West Coast, Logan and Bendigo.
Dalton led the Flames to strong home victories against the AIS and the Logan Thunder, as well as one thrilling contest against the visiting Bendigo Spirit where her side held on for an 81-79 win.
They also recorded away victories against the Adelaide Lightning, 70-65 and the West Coast Waves, 71-55 on their Round Two road double-header.
Flames players were awarded three of the four WNBL Player of the Week awards for the month, two to Amy Denson and one to Belinda Snell.
Over the weekend the Dalton led Flames defeated the Fire 84-77 in Townsville to take the outright competition lead and remain undefeated.
The WNBL Coach of the Month award is voted on by the league’s ten head coaches.
